You are our hero.

You make impossibly good things happen in our schools every single day.

And when a crisis hits – like Covid-19 – you’re on the front line.

You deserve to have someone fight with and for you.

Right now, we’re fighting to keep you and your students safe this Fall.

We are a professional union with a track record of protecting public education in Arizona by improving working conditions and benefits for school teachers and staff.

We are 20,000 members strong and we are growing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I join my local union?

Your friends and coworkers are members. We work together to make working life better for every teacher and staff member, including you!

In Arizona, we know we have to advocate for ourselves. It is up to us at a local level to protect our workplaces, our rights and make sure we have the resources we need to serve our students well. We need your voice and your support. Plus, belonging to a local union is a great way to meet great people across the district.

What are my responsibilities as a member?

You decide how much you can do. Everyone has different responsibilities, at different points in their lives and careers. There is no pressure and no guilt.

But, if you’re able, there are lots of ways to get involved. Attend our monthly meetings (all online now!), join a committee, participate in actions (like Red for Ed), share our social media posts, invite your friends & coworkers who aren’t members yet to join us. It’s up to you.

Who is eligible to join and what does it cost?

While it may differ by school district, certified and most classified staff can join. The exact cost also varies depending on which school district you work in, but it’s usually around $30 per paycheck for full time certified staff and around $18 per paycheck for full time classified staff.

What’s the difference between a “local union” and the Arizona Education Association (AEA)?

Each local union works in a particular School District, on the issues that matter to the teachers and staff in that District.

When you join, you also become part of the AEA, which works on issues that impact all teachers and staff in Arizona. (Remember when 20,000 of us filled the streets in front of the Arizona State Capitol, all dressed in red? ) And you become part of the National Education Association (NEA), which works on issues that impact all teachers and staff in the nation.

There is strength in numbers. And when you join your local union you are becoming part of a large and growing movement across the country – a movement that puts you, your students and our public schools first.
